New Baku International Sea Trade Port
“A few years ago I decided to build this port. Local and foreign specialists took part in the construction. I want to thank them for the work done. I am glad that the highest standards are applied here. Thus, we have created a powerful transport and logistics center in Azerbaijan.”
The words uttered by President Ilham Aliyev on May 14, 2018 in the opening ceremony of the Baku International Sea Trade Port complex in the Alat settlement (Garadagh district of the capital) confirm once again how much the country's leadership attaches to improving the transport infrastructure and increasing the transit capacity of Azerbaijan.
The "EVRASCON" Corporation as the general contractor for the construction of the largest port in the Caspian Sea has made a significant contribution to this business.
Work on the project began in 2007. "EVRASCON" Corporation implemented the preparation of the land part of the port area for construction, construction of the road infrastructure connecting the Baku-Alat highway with the port complex, as well as work on the railway line (36 km).
In November 2010, the foundation of the complex was laid. In September 2014, the main ferry terminal was commissioned, in January 2018, the Ro-Ro terminal, and in May of that year, the opening of the complex as a whole took place.
The port has 12 moorings. The total length of berths is approximately 2100 meters.
The length of the retaining wall of the reinforced concrete structure, which is one of the latest engineering innovations, is 1777 meters. The port has 2 berths for Ro-Ro type ships (ships approaching the ramp section will unload cargo), a universal container terminal consisting of seven berths, two ferry berths, and a service berth for ships. The canal and the water area of the port allow free access to the port for all types of vessels that sail in the Caspian Sea.
Cargo handling capacity of the port is 15 million tons, the next stage is designed to bring it to 25 million tons.
The Alat settlement is located at the intersection of highways and railways, and the new port complements this infrastructure, turning Baku into a major logistics center in the region and the main hub of North-South and East-West transport corridors.
